What We Do
Hind Mahila Sabha organizes and empowers women workers across sectors to claim their rights and dignity at work. We promote fair wages, safe workplaces, and social protection through advocacy, training, and union-building. Our initiatives also focus on health, housing, financial inclusion, and leadership development to build equality and justice for all women workers.
Themes
Mahila Sabha is a progressive women-led trade union committed to protecting and promoting the rights of women workers across sectors. We provide a collective voice for marginalized and unorganized women workers who are often excluded from decision-making and deprived of basic rights at the workplace.
1. Wage Discrimination & Equal Pay
Women workers, especially in the unorganized sector, are often paid less than men for the same work. Hind Mahila Sabha campaigns for:
-
Equal wages for equal work.
-
Transparency in wage payments.
-
Minimum wage enforcement across sectors.
2. Job Insecurity & Exploitation
Large sections of women are employed in informal, contract, or daily-wage jobs, leaving them vulnerable. We demand:
-
Regularization of employment.
-
Social security benefits for precarious /contractual / informal workers.
-
Protection against arbitrary dismissals.
3. Safe & Dignified Workplaces
Sexual harassment, unsafe working conditions, and lack of basic amenities remain major concerns. Hind Mahila Sabha fights for:
-
Zero tolerance towards workplace harassment.
-
Implementation of the POSH Act (Prevention of Sexual Harassment).
-
Safe sanitation facilities and health protections.
4. Privatisation of Essential Services
The increasing privatization of health, education, water, and care services has led to job insecurity, loss of rights, and exploitation of workers—most of whom are women.
-
HInd Mahila Sabha stands against:
-
Outsourcing and contractualisation that strips workers of protections.
-
Shrinking public sector jobs for women.
-
Rising costs of essential services that burden working-class families.
-
Lack of accountability and exploitation in private care, health, and education sectors.
5. Maternity & Childcare Rights
Women often face discrimination due to pregnancy or childcare responsibilities.
-
HInd Mahila Sabha advocates for:
-
Paid maternity leave for all women workers.
-
Workplace crèches and childcare support.
-
Protection against dismissal during pregnancy.
6. Right to Form & Strengthen Trade Unions
The ability to organize collectively is the backbone of workers’ rights, yet women often face barriers when trying to unionize.
Hind Mahila Sabha strongly asserts:
-
The right to freely form and join trade unions.
-
Protection against victimization of union members.
-
Recognition of women-led unions in collective bargaining.
-
Training and leadership opportunities for women & young trade unionists
7. Young Workers’ Issues
Young women entering the workforce face unique challenges, from exploitation to lack of career growth.
Hind Mahila Sabha focuses on:
-
Ending exploitative apprenticeships and unpaid internships.
-
Ensuring decent entry-level wages.
-
Protection against age- and gender-based discrimination.
-
Skill development and training opportunities for secure futures.
-
Awareness of labor rights among young workers.
8. Access to Social Security, Welfare, and Collective Bargaining
Women workers in the formal ( temporary ) & informal sector are often excluded from pensions, health insurance, and government welfare benefits, while their voices are frequently marginalized in male-dominated unions.
Hind Mahila Sabha addresses these challenges by advocating for universal access to health insurance, old-age pensions, and streamlined access to government welfare schemes. At the same time, HMS strengthens women’s leadership and representation in negotiations, ensuring their participation in decision-making and fostering solidarity across sectors. By combining social protection with collective bargaining power, HMS empowers women workers to secure their rights, livelihoods, and a stronger voice in shaping their workplaces.
